2017 Garden Stitchalong

Happy Monday, friends!

There’s a bit of a false spring here in Southern California. We went from stormy gale-force winds to cool sun-drenched afternoons in just a week. Still too early for gardening, but always perfect for needle & thread.

In case you didn’t already know, our favorite thing to do indoors is stitch. And our favorite thing to do outdoors is garden. So we had this delightful idea to combine the two loves. The inspiration came earlier this season, when a touch of the winter doldrums set in:

“It’s cold and gloomy and I miss our garden veg.”

“Won’t be long now. Just a few more months of winter.”

A few more months of wint-”      LIGHT BULB

“If we can’t grow a garden, we will stitch one!”

(Now I can’t definitively say which of us originally came up with the idea, because we’re a team, and there’s no “I” in team. But there is an “m” and since “me” begins with “m”, I think it’s okay to admit that it was I. Err, me. Or D. Remember, we’re a team.)

So that’s what we set out to do: Design a felt softie garden. It’s been a total delight! It’s brightened even the stormiest winter days – sketching, cutting, and stitching these huggable garden buddies. We love their big innocent eyes and cheery cheeks. We love that look:

Hi, I’m Leek. Will be you be my buddy?

Yes, I will totally be your buddy, Leek. You’re a cutie pie.

The Details

The Garden Stitchalong is a year-long celebration of hand-stitching and garden magic.

We will design vegetable and fruit softie patterns that are seasonal. (That means no matter how much we love pumpkins – and goodness knows we do – we’ve got to wait ’till pumpkin season before launching the pumpkin softie pattern.) Our goal is to make the Garden Stitchalong fun and festive! We want to look forward to each new season, with all the cheerful comings and goings of a garden.

Note: Gardens have a lot more than fruits and veg, so expect to find some furry critter patterns as well! Also some with wings, and others that just sort of stand around quiet as gnomes. *wink*

We know you’re going to love this! If you’ve got little ones, these stitchable buddies are sure to inspire their love of the garden, and possibly make that broccoli on the dinner plate look a lot less intimidating.  (We can hope, right?) But while these veggies aren’t edible, they’re all about nourishing and uplifting your spirits. That’s what stitching and crafting (and gardening) are all about.

So please join us in this colorful hand-stitched adventure!

To kick off the stitchalong, ‘Garden Leek’ is now in the shop, ready to stitch and love.
